Realistic Video Helps Recruit Kenan-Flagler Executive MBA Students

UNC Kenan-Flagler Executive MBAWith demand for traditional MBA programs for full-time, residential students flagging, effective recruitment of working professionals to online programs has gained new importance. One barrier to many potential students is the question of how to adapt their life at work and home to the added weight of earning an MBA degree.

The Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina does that quite well with a special page simply but adeptly titled “Home, Work & School Balance.”

Contrary to what some articles might have us think, video is not the single most important element of a website. But in this case, opening with a realistic video (just under 4 minutes) featuring two students, their children, and their spouses was a smart move.

If placing the video high on the page was not enough, the simple prompt just before it reinforces the desired action: “You’re probably wondering, ‘How can I possibly balance home, work and b-school, too?’ You should consult the experts. Our students.” Real people. Talking about real problems. Hype-free. Believable.

After the video, 4 easy-to-scan headings introduce additional content:

  • An MBA that fits your life
  • Four MBA program options
  • Balancing home life
  • Balancing home life

Take note of the content presentation here. Layout with admirable white space between each section. Brief text in everyday language. Appropriate links to additional content.

All in all, this is an excellent example of a “clean and simple” web page addressing an important issue for people searching for professional programs like this.
