Follow COVID-19 Outbreaks at 68 Colleges & Universities

COVID-19 Colleges and UniversitiesHow are colleges across the United States doing as they struggle to prevent and combat COVID-19 as the fall semester opens?

Benjamin Renton provides us with one path to follow as he uses Tableau to create an easy to scan tracking system for 68 public and private colleges and universities across the U.S. Some you’ve no doubt been reading about in the news. Others, not so much. Overall, this is a good attempt to update everyone interested. Is anyone not interested?

Large screen better than mobile…

While this works on mobile, you will find it easier to scan and open individual schools if you visit on a desktop or laptop computer.

You can do several things here:

  • The 68 schools are color-coded by 4 alert levels: Yellow, Orange, Red, and Green. Roll your cursor over the map to find individual schools in each color.
  • Set the map to show all the alert levels at once or you can select a single color/alert level.
  • Set the map to show “Current cumulative cases” or “Cases in the last 7 days.”
  • As I type this, date for several schools I visited was current as of September 10 and September 11. Just how updated the data stays will of course depend on how individual schools report. A few have not been updated since August.

If people on your campus are interested on what’s happening on other campuses as they make policy decisions, this is one website to keep in mind. Sharing is caring.
