Instagram gets Major Space on the Boston College Home Page
This year’s E-Expectations survey of high school students (download here) includes a question re which social media sites are most important to their college planning process. Instagram was the clear winner, cited by 70 percent of students at each grade level for daily use. For college planning it was ranked high by seniors (44 percent), juniors (47 percent), and sophomores (52 percent).
YouTube was the second most popular site, closer to Instagram than to the Facebook in 3rd place. TikTok and Twitter were even further behind for high school students.
And so, we wondered, did any college or university sites give prominent home page placement to Instagram? We searched 40 home pages looking for more than the often used icons for various social media sites.
We found only two. Boston College was the easily the most prominent. Dartmouth was also highly “Instagram visible.” None of the other 38 site were comparable.
Scroll down on the home page past BC news items and COVID updates and you can’t miss the Instagram connection when you get to it. Visitors will see one prominent Instagram image and several smaller images. If a smaller one is of more interest than the featured image, just click on it to start your visit. Nicely done.
Dartmouth College is much further down the home page. When you arrive you’ll have a choice of 3 images to start.
If you home page has a similar Instagram link, add it below as a comment. The more, as they say, the merrier.
